Jacqueline Ferguson passed away peacefully at the Revera McKenzie Towne Care Centre in Calgary on Friday, March 27, 2015 at the age of 85 years. Jackie is survived by her sister Fran Ellard of Thunder Bay and lovingly remembered by her sons Tom Ferguson of Calgary, John F. Ferguson of Italy and her daughter Ada Veronneau of Canmore. She is sadly missed by her seven grandchildren, Patrick Veronneau of Calgary, Rochelle Chou of Vancouver BC, Anita Dollimont of Delta BC, Sara Veronneau of Brisbane Australia, Nicole Veronneau of Calgary, Gigi Wodyga of Calgary and Mark Ferguson presently in Italy. Predeceased by her husband John T. Ferguson in 2002 to whom she was happily married for 50 years, less one month.
Jackie was born in Fort William and raised in Port Arthur Ontario. After her wedding in 1952, she moved to Alberta, raised a family and stayed in Western Canada for the rest of her life. She had a competitive nature and loved sports from girl’s hockey in her youth to swimming and golf later in life, including a hole in one at the Connaught Golf Course in Medicine Hat. She moved to Canmore in 1998 to be closer to her grandchildren. Jackie and John were active in the Canmore Seniors Centre volunteering and enjoying the activities. From 1992 to 1998 she represented Canmore in swimming and bowling at the Alberta Senior Games, winning several medals. She taught swimming and golf to the younger generations. In her seventies she could be found practicing Tai Chi or lifting weights at the local gym. Ever ready for adventure she travelled to Istanbul, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Hawaii and several of the United States.
A Memorial Service will be held at Ralph Connor United Church, 617 - 8 Street, Canmore on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a reception in the church hall. Jacqueline’s final resting place is in the Canmore Cemetery.
