Jack Walter Gray

March 2, 1918 – July 9, 2013

Jack's family sadly announces the death of their beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Jack passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, AB surrounded by the love of his family on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the age of 95 years. He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 69 years; his children Gordon (Jean), Don (Carol), Lorraine and Robert (Linda); his seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Ethel, and his siblings Charlie, Frances, and Frank. Born in Simon's Valley, AB on March 2, 1918, Jack was raised in Bearspaw, where he spent his life farming and tending to his animals. He started school at Bearspaw in 1924 before attending Westminster. Jack married Dorothy in Calgary on December 8, 1943; they owned and operated a dairy and beef farm until they retired. Jack's greatest joy in life was his children and grandchildren, whom he taught to ride, love animals and respect the land. He loved the Bearspaw community, where he enjoyed the companionship of his lifelong friends and neighbors. Jack quickly turned strangers into friends everywhere he went. He loved us with all his heart and we loved him back. A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Cochrane & Area Humane Society, 62 Griffin Industrial Point, Cochrane, AB T4C 0A3. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at Cochrane Urgent Care and Unit 82 at the Foothills Hospital.
