Ivan Alexander Long passed away peacefully at his home in Auburn Bay, Calgary on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at the age of 93 years. He leaves to mourn his wife of 67 years Zona Long, his children, Ernest Long (Lynn), Teresa Solmosan (James), Susan Iverach (Robert), Bruce Long (Diana), his Sister Doris Wall, as well as 12 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren. He was pre deceased by his son Howard Long, his parents Howard & Elspet Long, and his sister Bernice Creasey. Ivan was born in Carberry, Manitoba on August 16, 1923 on the family homestead, the oldest of 3 children. Ivan served in the Canadian Armed Services during WW II, enlisting on November 11, 1941 at the age 18, with his friend Neil MacDonald. Stationed Red Deer, Alberta then serving overseas predominantly in Italy. On his return to Canada he moved to Alberta and met his wife Zona in Picture Butte. He then worked with Canadian Pacific Airlines (Repairs) as an Air Engineer Mechanic on Sabre Jets and T33's in Calgary, Alberta; Lethbridge, Alberta and MacDonald, Manitoba. He then joined Alberta Highways and worked in road construction, building roads all over Southern Alberta, retiring as a foreman after being with them for 25 years. A Visitation will be at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 7:00 pm - 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Those wishing could make a donation in Ivan's name to CNIB or the Veterans Food Bank The Canadian Legacy Project, Suite 210, 1235 – 17th Avenue SW Calgary, Alberta T2T 0C2.
