Howe Gain Jay passed away peacefully on December 16, 2016 at the age of 85 years. Howe was born in Hoi Ping, China and immigrated to Canada in 1952. He moved to Vulcan, Alberta where he worked and co-owned the Royal Café for the next 24 years. His wife joined him in Vulcan in 1958, where they raised their six children. Howe enjoyed contributing to the community, as a member of the Vulcan Lion’s Club. He organized a yearly Mother’s Day dinner to raise funds for recreation facilities such as the artificial ice plant and outdoor pool. Howe and his wife moved their family to Calgary, Alberta in 1976 so that their children could attend post-secondary education. This is where they opened Jay’s Restaurant. After retiring to stay connected to the community, Howe found a job at the U of C where he made many friends. At 71 he finally retired. Howe cherished his family most of all and will be dearly missed by his wife Kwan Yok, his six children, Yam (Xiao Hong), Linda, Mary (Bob), Brenda, Jong (Maureen), Josie, and his six grandchildren, Rebecca, Adria, Kipsan, Ming, Sarah and Emily. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr.Scott-Douglas and the staff of Unit 37 at the Foothills Hospital. A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Wednesday December 21, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calgary Health Trust 800, 11012 Macleod Trail S.E.
