It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hilda Louise Johnson. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Arthur (Carla) Johnson, her daughter, Valerie (Brian Skeet) Shibley and granddaughters, Grace, Abigail, Emily, Jennifer and Samantha. She is also survived by her brother, Harry (Dorothy) Campbell as well as family in the Maritimes and Eastern Canada. She is predeceased by her loving husband Ivan Johnson, and her siblings, Jean, Anne, Billy, Audrey, Johnny and Darrell. She was born in Sudbury, ON. As a brave young woman she moved to Toronto, ON to start a career in legal services. It was there that she met the love of her life, Ivan, at the registry office. Hilda helped Ivan build his law practice. She was a dynamo in the office, and her flair for fashion ensured she was the sharpest looking legal assistant around. Hilda and Ivan moved out west in the late 70’s and Calgary, AB became their true family home. They also bought a condo in Canmore, AB and their family and friends had many great times there. Hilda even tried downhill skiing but quickly decided her efforts were better spent painting the many landscapes the area provided. She captured the beauty of sunrises and sunsets, always with lots of pink. Hilda built her life around her faith, her love of family and friends, painting and music. The record player was always played loud and her tastes ranged from Andre Rieu to the Rolling Stones. Hilda had a lively sense of humour and always created friendships wherever she went. She adored her grandchildren as well as her nieces and nephews. Time spent with them was always cherished. A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 8200, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4W5. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
