Gladys Marie Post passed away peacefully on October 1, 2020, one week before her 95th birthday. Gladys is survived by two daughters, Laurel (Ken) Friesen and Wendy Baillargeon; four grandchildren, Michelle Bogren, Dan Friesen, Theresa (Kris) Mullen, and Michael Baillargeon; six great-grandchildren: Wynn Bogren, James, Curtis and Michael Friesen, Jayden Baillargeon and Brandon Lamoureaux. She is also survived by her brother Jim Ross of Winnipeg and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ellery Post; her parents, Gordon and Laura Ross; three brothers, Colin, John and Pat Ross, and three sisters, Doreen Gibson, Georgia Jackson and Doris Bliss.
Ellery’s career with Canada Immigration meant many moves for the family, starting in Emerson, then Winnipeg, Regina, Brandon, back to Emerson, and finally to Calgary. After retirement, Ellery and Gladys lived in Kelowna, BC, for 13 years before returning to Calgary. They made many life-long friends everywhere they lived.
Gladys was a smart, strong and independent woman long before there was a women’s movement. She lived a good life on her own terms. She was a going concern, a hard worker and never sat still. She had varied occupations including a telephone operator in Emerson (Number please), Gregg shorthand instructor in Brandon, switchboard operator at Sears in Calgary and her final career with Canada Customs. She typed the Gestetner stencils for the United Church in Emerson and was the bookkeeper for the condo in Kelowna. She was an amazing curler and golfer. The house was full of bonspiel winnings and she was very proud of her hole-in-one trophy. She was an avid reader, an amazing seamstress and always had knitting needles with her in case she had any spare time. She never watched TV without the click clack of needles.
Gladys was very committed and devoted to her family and will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Foothills Hospital for the kindness and care they gave us in the last couple of days during these difficult times, and to thank the staff at Carewest George Boyack and Carewest Colonel Belcher for their excellent and kind care over the past year and through the isolation.
A private family service will be held.
