Fred was born in 1933 in the community of Inglewood in Calgary. During his childhood he made many lifelong friends that were very dear to him his entire life. The “East End Gang” as they called themselves, continued to meet regularly for breakfast until 2020.
In 1964, Fred married the love of his life Gail, and they had two children; Nancy and Greg. Fred’s life was his family. His warm and loving personality and caring nature will be cherished forever. His grandchildren feel so lucky to have had so much time with such a wonderful Gramps. The impact he had on those he loved was tremendous.
Fred was a dedicated employee of CP Rail for 42 years, starting as a Wiper – Hostler and working his way up to Locomotive Engineer. In his retirement, Fred spent 10 seasons at Heritage Park as a Train Conductor. Fred loved watching the children enjoy the train and chatting with visitors from all over the world.
Fred will be fondly remembered for his love of bike rides, ice cream, Dinos and Stampeders football, fish and chips, and coffee breaks. His ability to banter will continue to make us smile.
Fred will forever remain in the memory of his wife, Gail; children Nancy (David) and Greg (Sheri); grandchildren Julia (Austin) and Hannah; as well as numerous loving relatives, friends, and neighbours. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Ivy and George; and his siblings, George, Marg, Stella, and Ron.
Our family is very grateful to the Silver Team at Crowfoot Family Practice, Dr. Vincent Yacyshyn, and the Palliative Home Care Team.
As per Fred’s wishes, his Celebration will be a private family function. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred’s memory can be made to the Salvation Army (https://salvationarmy.ca).
