Born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, she was the sixth child of loving parents Michael and Catherine Hummel. After residing in Tramping Lake, Saskatchewan, the family moved to Battleford, Saskatchewan where they farmed. When Freda was 12, the family again moved to North Battleford where they purchased a dairy farm. After leaving school, she worked at Union Hospital in North Battleford for three years. In 1953, Freda married Gerard Bourgeault and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where they raised three children. In 1973, they purchased the Towers Hotel in Dauphin, Manitoba, later selling it in 1975 when they moved to Calgary. She worked in the accounting department at Macleod Dixon Law Firm for twelve years, retiring in 1987. Freda loved playing cards and was a long-time member of St. Gerard’s Catholic Church prayer tree. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who was dedicated to her faith.
She will be sadly missed by her children Kenneth (Jeannette), Brenda (Dennis) Southgate and Richard; grandchildren Nathan, Genevieve, Jordan, Cody, Jessica, Crystal, Candace and Kendra; nine great-grandchildren; stepson Norman Kraft; brother Joseph (Loretta) Hummel, sister Helen (Bill) Thomson and sister-in-law Pauline Hummel.
Freda is preceded in death by her husbands Gerard Bourgeault and Anthony Kraft; parents Michael and Katherine Hummel; brothers Leo, Valentine and Phillip; sisters Marian Hummel, Caroline Baert and Madeline Hankins; and sister-in-law Kathlene Hummel.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church, 8944 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 11:30 a.m.
