It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frances Lorraine Marie Matichak on Thursday, January 5, 2023. Frances is lovingly remembered by her children Sara and Matthew Maloney. Her partner Edmund Jones. Her mother Eleanor Matichak. Her sisters Cynthia and Rachel (Attila). Her nieces and nephews: Lauren, Keith, Alex, Christian, Victoria, Jonathan, Esther, Tim and Laurel. Frances was predeceased by her father Roman Matichak.
Frances was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec. She completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in MIS from McGill University and a Master of Science degree in Project Management from l’Université du Québec à Montréal. She began her career working for IBM in Montreal. In 1997, she moved to Calgary with her young family and husband, Shawn Maloney. After leaving IBM she then worked in the oil and gas industry as a project manager. Frances completed her career at TELUS Health as a senior project manager until August 2019.
Frances loved animals. She had a soft spot for rescuing older dogs from the Humane Society. She also enjoyed hiking and was a long time member of the Slow and Steady hikers here in Calgary. She will be remembered for so many things we loved about her.
We would like to thank all the caring nursing staff and Dr. Parhar and Dr. Smith of Unit94 at the Foothills Hospital.
