Evelyn "Peggy" Mary Smith

Evelyn "Peggy" Mary Smith passed away peacefully at the Care West Royal Park Nursing Home on May 29th, 2024, at the age of 90 years. Peggy is survived by sister Marley (Abbotsford B.C.), daughter Pat, granddaughter Stephanie (Kyle) and great granddaughters Kalli and Lexi as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Peggy was predeceased by her parents J. Aubrey and Emily McInroy, brother Jack McInroy, sister Shirley, husband Stan, son Philip and brothers in law Murray and Court.

Peggy grew up in Mission B.C., she was the eldest of her 3 sisters. In her youth, she sang in many music festivals and choirs, this is also when she met the love of her life Stan. Peggy and Stan were married in February 1952. Shortly thereafter, they bravely decided to move east to Calgary at the encouragement of Stan's brother Harry.

Soon after, they would welcome their daughter Patricia and in 1956, they would welcome their son Philip.

Peggy was a true master of her trade with both cooking and baking. There wasn't a thing she couldn't make! Once Pat and Phil were of school age, Peggy returned to the workforce. In 1975, she earned her Red Seal ticket from SAIT as a Chef. This would take her to the Glamorgan Nursing Home and Mount Royal College as head Chef, from here, she would 'retire'.

Retirement for Peggy meant going to work at Entheos Christian Retreat Center volunteering for the Anglican Christian Womens's Society (ACW) and all the events that St. Marks or St. Martins Anglican Church hosted with always ensuring that Stephanie made it to her appointments. Peggy would 'retire' from Entheos a few times before actually retiring completely. Peggy and Stan always had a passion for travel. Multiple trips to Hawaii, cruises to Alaska, bus trips Nevada and many train rides. Most notably, a 30 Carribean cruise to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Whether it be by bus, boat, plane, car or train, Peggy and Stan were packed and ready to go! Of course, there also were many trips home to the Coast.

Peggy loved reading a good mystery novel and doing any crossword puzzle she and Stan could get their hands on! Happy hour was promptly at 5:00 pm in the Smith household and following that, was always a delicious meal! Peggy and Stan were always gracious hosts and enjoyed entertaining.

Later in life brought some health challenges for Peggy the last few years of her life and she moved into Care West Royal Park. Once there, she affectionately become known as 'the plant lady'. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Care West Royal Park for the love, friendships and phenomenal care that Peggy received as a resident there.
