September 1936 – April 2013
“Grammy” passed away into the arms of her Lord on April 7, 2013 in Calgary, Alberta. Grammy’s life was full from the beginning as she was the second youngest of thirteen children born to Rudolf and Philippina Kendel. She loved her brothers and sisters deeply and throughout her life, family was everything. Grammy moved to Lamont, Alberta to study to become a registered nurse. It was there she met Kevan Mayan and they were married on March 20, 1959. The story goes on their first date they decided they were going to get married and have a gaggle of kids. Well a gaggle did follow-six children in eight years. The years ahead were filled with hard work and many moves that gave way to many friendships across the province before they settled in southern Alberta. Their lives were centered around their love for each other, their children, their horses and sport. Kevan predeceased Grammy in April of 2000. From then on Grammy’s life changed as she began to struggle with the injury to her brain from a fall and the onset of dementia. Grammy loved being with her family whether it was beating her siblings at softball at the annual Kendel reunion, making her children’s favourite dish for Christmas or taking care of her precious grandchildren. Her light and her love will be missed by all the family but especially by her children and grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 243209 Garden Road NE Calgary on Saturday April 13, 2013 at 1:30 p.m.
