Ellen McMillan Leeks was born at home on the family farm near Braintree, Alberta on May 26, 1925. She passed away in Calgary, Alberta on September 29, 2018 at the age of 93 years. She grew up on the family farm and went to school in Rockyford and then St Mary’s Girls School in Calgary. She then enlisted in the army as a steno. In 1946, she and Frederick Leeks eloped. They farmed for years near Spirit River with their two girls. After the girls were grown, Fred and Ellen moved to Bruderheim and then to Calgary.
She is survived by her daughters Carolyn Lowther and Cathy (Brandt) Miller, grandchildren Quentin (Elmina), Neil, Pam (Ken) and Stephanie (Al) and great grandchildren Celina, Evan, Lance, Declan, Noah and Isabelle. Ellen was predeceased by her husband Fred of 69 years.
The family wishes to thank the Doctors and staff at Aspen Lodge for the care Ellen received throughout the years.
