Eleanor Jean Gordon a long-time resident of Calgary, died Friday the 16th of January quietly at home with her husband at her side. Born in 1932, in Regina, SK, she was adopted as a child to Foster Parents Mr. and Mrs. Orpwood, who moved their family to Calgary, then Victoria, B.C. Eleanor travelled extensively in her youth and was very active athletically. She received training in the secretarial sciences which allowed her to work in Canada and abroad. She met her husband George E. Gordon, as members of the Canadian Youth Hostel Association and they were married on July 1st, 1955. Eleanor was a fine baker and loved good food and socializing with family. She was also an avid gardener and knitter who has won many awards and ribbons over the years. She enjoyed travelling with family and loved both the mountains and the Pacific Ocean, where she spent her youth. She will also be remembered for her agile mind, her love of silly animated movies and her ability to read three novels a week (mostly mysteries). Eleanor was survived by four children, Bruce (Phyllis), Carol (Dave), Neil and Audrey (Ray). Both Bruce and Carol have made lives for themselves outside Calgary while Neil and Audrey still live in the city. She was also very dedicated to her Grandchildren, Twyla, Shannon, Cameron and Amber as well as her Great Grandchildren, Julie, Riley and Leah.Memorial gifts may be made to the Lakeview United Church, 2023 63rd Ave, S.W. Calgary Alberta, T3E-5J6. A ‘Remembrance of life’ ceremony will be held at the church from 2:00 - 4:00 pm on Friday, February 6, 2015.
