Edna Cox passed away November 8, 2014 in Calgary at the age of 90. She was born in Kingston, Ontario. Her parents were Harry and Ellen Singleton from England. Edna was the youngest of five children. Her siblings are Harry, Vera and Elsie as well as Wilma who passed away in 1959 at age 38.
Edna attended Frontenac Elementary school where she performed by playing the piano, dancing and singing. She then attended Kingston Collegiate Vocational Institute and then Kingston Business College. After graduating she was employed by the Canadian Locomotive Company as secretary to the Chief Mechanical Engineer. She was with them for four years until her marriage in 1946 to Lieutenant Burnell Bigelow Cox. They had three children, Burnell Guilford (born in 1949), a still-born baby daughter (born in 1951) and Bradley James (born in 1955) who was killed in a motor cycle accident in Montana in 1987 at the age of 32.
She moved to other cities quite often wherever her husband was posted. In her younger days she did modeling while in Kingston. In 1949 she joined a chorus of girls who danced for the troops. She loved dancing! While in Calgary Edna was employed with the Board of Education at Lakeview Elementary School in the office and library. She worked for 11 years and then retired in 1985.
Edna and her husband went on a world trip visiting India (where Burnie was born), Sri Lanka, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Tokyo. They were gone for four months. Edna loved swimming, skating and curling. She didn’t want to be a golf widow because her husband and son played so she also took up golf but found it frustrating.
Edna is survived by her son Burnell, two grandsons, Jameson and Graham and 2 granddaughters, Ashley and Paige.
A private graveside service will be held.
