I was very sad to hear of Dwayne's passing. I met Dwayne at the start of my career at ATB Corporate Financial Services. Dwayne was a giant and a true pioneer in the Alberta oil and gas industry. Dwayne was highly influential on our team at ATB and was a great mentor to me.  Had it not been for Dwayne's willingness to develop/mentor me, I would not be where I am in my career today. 

I was always grateful for Dwayne's time, which he was so generous with. I will always remember his friendly smile and willingness to stop and chat, no matter how busy he was. I remember fondly our walks and chats in the +15's of Calgary, where Dwayne would have a Tim Hortons coffee in his hand. Dwayne was always willing to share his experiences, full of good advice and wisdom. We would talk about career plans, banking, and various other topics, often interjected with Dwayne's anecdotes on sports and his family. It was easy to see that Dwayne's family meant everything to him, especially his grandkids who were his pride and joy. 

I will always be grateful for the opportunity to have met Dwayne. His legacy lives on through all of us who were privileged enough to have been mentored by him. My heartfelt condolences to Ann and the Hoopfer family.



First met Dwayne, chance encounter . Had to be 15 or more years ago. He asked if I would like to team with him and take turns driving to golf. We did and rest was next 15 years of fun,great conversation, working on the club board together. Just being friends on the course. We ‘d break for winter and come April, we picked up the golf and banter as if we were never apart. 
I recall he never really got mad out there. Absorbed the triple bogie and went to next hole to simply try again..
Good sport and a good man.  And, I miss him

Our deepest condolences Ann. Leanne and I have fond childhood memories camping in Wayne with you and Dwayne. He would take us to lay pennies on the railroad tracks, teach us how to play pool and darts in the bar, and hike around town. We are lucky to have grown up knowing Dwayne.

Very saddened to hear the news of Dwayne's passing. My sincere condolences. Dwayne brought so much life to the party and was quite the character on the golf course. He will be truly missed. 

I was one of Dwayne's corporate borrowing clients and he was one of the best I ever had the pleasure to work with.  We shared many a laugh on the links, at Spruce Meadows or just working on a deal.  Dwayne, you will be missed.

Dwayne and I met while working in Corporate Financial Services at ATB Financial. He always had a smile and his trademark chuckle whenever we talked about technology and the changes that it brought to banking and people. I was saddened to hear of his passing, and I am grateful for his time that he gave to me. I imagine him on a walk with Bandit on an Alberta spring day, talking gently but providing sage counsel. So sad to hear of Dwayne’s passing. He was such a nice person and a perfect gentleman. I didn’t know him well but he always recognized people and always remembered their names. Far too young to have left us. My condolences to all his family and friends.

I also worked at ATB Financial and although never worked closely with Dwayne our paths crossed through our long career with ATB. I  knew him as a work associate who was very dedicated to ATB.  Sorry to hear of your loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Like so many others sharing their memories, I met Dwayne while working at ATB. Although we never worked in the same branch or department we still became good friends. Dwayne and I curled together at the North Hill Curling Club for 14 years. Our greatest curling achievement being making the City Finals in 2013. We also had a blast curling in many curling bonspiels in Indus , Okotoks, and of course at North Hill. I also got the opportunity to play a couple of rounds of golf with Dwayne every year which was always a great time. My condolences Ann and the Hoopfer family. RIP Dwayne. 

Dwayne and I were friends it seems forever. I remember that my mother and I picked him up for the first day of school. We were in cubs and scouts together and of course played baseball when ever and where ever. He was also the first one of my friends to have a skateboard and in Gadsby that meant learning to ride it on the only fifty  foot long piece of concrete sidewalk in the whole town. We had great times of bike riding, sleepovers, playing all kinds of made up games in our clubhouse in the loft of the other building on their property and  everything else you could do in a small town. Rest in peace my friend. I will pay my respect at the Omega cemetery the end of August.

Such a great guy and a true friend. I worked with Dwayne at ATB and was a credit trainee under his guidance in 1987.  He was a great teacher and I am so grateful for all that he taught me. Part of that training involved a teaching of how to party all night and then go straight to work. This involved wearing the same suits back to the office the next day but swapping ties with each other so that the staff won’t be able to notice.   RIP my friend. 

So sad to hear of Dwayne's passing. Our deepest condolences to the family.  Memories of Ann and Dwayne go back to 1978 when we first came to Fort McMurray.  Jim and Dwayne played fastball together.  Ann and I spent many evenings at the ballfield and we often went for hot chocolate at their home after.  We played many games of cards till the wee hours of the morning!!  Our 1st wedding anniversary all night party was held at their home on Crescent Heights.  They moved to Calgary but we still kept in touch and visited them a few times.  Tara-Lynn, Shane and Travis  formed their own "Rock Band" on one of our visits!!. We met all of Dwayne's family and have great memories of visiting with Sy, Annie and Myrtle in Stettler and Aunty Tuffett (Verna) in Calgary.  I still keep in touch at Christmas time with Myrtle, all these years later.  So many memories that will forever be etched in our minds.   Gone but never forgotten!! Both Jim and Dwayne are now in heaven looking over us all!!  May God's peace be with you all.

Dwayne was always so kind to us, he was willing to help us whenever we needed it, especially towards Ray's disabilities. He would sit out on the front porch of his vacation house in Palm Creek with Bandit enjoying the warm Arizona winters. Ann was just as friendly and we looked forward to their return when the borders opened up again. We were shocked and saddened by the news. God bless your family.

I was very fortunate to be included on Saturday and Sunday morning walks with Dwayne, Mike and Bob.  Those are very fond memories and I hope the family and friends of Dwayne have many memories to comfort them during this time.  My condolences to all the family.  

Dwayne was such a good friend for a long time,  it was 1979 when we first became friends.  I will sure miss him.  His fondness for the guys golf trip was mentioned.  On this one in the photo, in typical Dwayne fashion, he rounded up Jim Nabors for our photo op.   Not many would have the chutzpah to organize that, but Dwayne did.  He was a ‘do-er’, never a bystander.  Our sincere condolences Ann,
