She leaves behind her brother Don and his wife Barb of Okotoks, AB and many beloved nieces and nephews and their families.
Doreen was predeceased in 2006 by her loving and devoted husband, Robert Kerby.
Doreen began her nursing career when she graduated as a Registered Nurse, April 24, 1951. She worked with Polio patients at Isolation Hospital, Calgary, AB during the epidemic of the 1950’s.
Doreen was an avid reader- her library was something to behold. During her time living at Wabamun Lake and Seeba Beach, Alberta, she loved to tutor students in reading, writing and arithmetic. This continued when she and Bob retired and moved back to their home in Calgary.
Doreen was a generous person, always looking for ways to help those in need around her. She was a long-time donor to Doctors without Borders and to several Children’s Charities. Doreen’s fondness for gardening was well known amongst her family, and she and Bob spent many hours each year in their garden, always welcoming anyone who came by to sit and relax with them there. They were both artists at heart creating many beautiful oil paintings and ceramic sculptures.
She loved to fondly reminisce about her Mom (Alice) and her Dad (Charles) and her sister (Doris) who sadly passed away in her early years.
In her later years, Doreen received care from dear friends Natalia and Marcia, and her nephew Jim. As her need for care increased, Doreen moved from her home to a residential care home in Red Deer, Alberta, where she passed away peacefully on March 30, 2024. She will be sadly missed by many.
