Donna Brock passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at the age of 94 years. She was born in June of 1927 to John and Hattie Vikse. She grew up in a farming family, first near Lomond, Alberta and later near Donalda. She moved to Calgary at 16 and her first job was working at a toy factory making wooden toys until the war ended. When it shut down, she went to work at Picardy’s coffee shop and later the Bay coffee shop and stockroom, followed by Parkdale Drug. She met her love Eric at the Crystal rink in the spring of 1949 and they were married in 1950. They raised 2 children in Parkdale and Donna volunteered during the school years chaperoning trips and organizing fund raisers. Later she volunteered at Bow Crest nursing home and the Parkdale School Library. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and playing the piano. Donna had a strong faith and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for many years. She was kind, caring, supported many charities and loved by all who met her.
She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her son Richard (Barbara), her daughter Marilyn; and her grandchildren Lauren and Lindsay. Also left to mourn Donna are her sisters Hazel Kucinskas, Gloria (Gerry) Barbas, and Loretta (Ron) Foshaug, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Donna was predeceased by her husband, Eric; parents, John and Hattie; brother, John ‘Jack’ Vikse; her sisters, Virginia ‘Ginny’ Osness, Joyce Vikse, Carol Vikse; and her son-in-law, Keith Smith.
A Private Funeral Service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) with Interment to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
