Donald Stuart Lane passed away at the Carewest Colonel Belcher on April 26, 2019 at the age of 97 years. Don is survived by son Harry (Emily) Lane; daughter Carol (Jack) Richardson; 7 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Agnes, wife Dell, brother Doug, sister Elsie, son Reginald (Bertha) and daughter Sharon.
Born and raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, he watched his parents struggle through the dirty 30’s. He volunteered to join the Air Force at the age of 19, serving in WWII as a pilot and flying officer. In 1945, upon discharge he obtained his Bachelor of Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. Don was married to Dell Lane for 60 years and together they raised four children, Sharon, Reginald, Harry and Carol.
Upon an early retirement Dell and Don raised Arabian horses in B.C. After losing his wife, Dell in 2008, he unfortunately suffered a stroke in 2013 and lived a very compromised life till his passing.
Thank you to the caring staff at the Carewest Colonel Belcher who treated him with care and compassion. Also, his caregivers became a huge part of his life, namely Violet, Maggie, Vicki and Debbie (physio therapist) who had an abundance of patience and understanding for his condition. Cathrine, a volunteer, devoted many hours and was never short of kindness and compassion. A special thanks to the Vets Angels as well as Col. Ratcliffe and Major Ash of the Salvation Army.
A Poppy Ceremony will be held at a later date at the Kensington Legion #264, (1918 Kensington Rd NW).
