Donald Jung

Donald Jung passed away peacefully in Calgary on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the age of 82 years. Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret; sons, Jacob (Hellen), David (Min) and John (Sandy); as well as four grandchildren, Nicholas, Ryan, Nathan and Emily. Born in China, Don immigrated to Canada in 1954 and moved to Calgary in 1960 to begin work as a mechanic. He was very involved in service at the Calgary Chinese Pentecostal Church, where he was introduced to his future wife Margaret. They married in 1961 and raised three sons together. Don applied his entrepreneurial spirit to expanding his vocation as a mechanic, into owning and building eight gas and grocery stores and various commercial properties. He was also blessed in his philanthropic endeavours and Christian ministry by being a part of the Calgary Chinese Christian Business and Professional Association; the Calgary Chinatown Foundation; as well as the Calgary Chinatown Merchants Association and as a Senator of the University of Calgary. Don had a special place in his heart for the elderly and was one of the founders of the Chinese Christian Wing Kei Nursing Home Association. Through his passionate and tireless leadership to help seniors, he was proud to help create two nursing homes known as the Wing Kei Care Centre and Wing Kei Green View. Another passion in Don’s life was fishing and he took countless fishing trips with Margaret, sons, grandchildren and friends, including a Salmon fishing trip to BC in 2015. The family would like to thank the Rockyview Hospital Emergency and Unit 71 staff for their exceptional care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Wing Kei Care Centre, 1212 Centre St N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 2R4. A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., with interment to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
