It is with profound sadness and great loss that we announce that Delores (Dee) Johnson has passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side in Calgary, Alberta, on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at the age of 81 years.
Dee was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and met her husband in Niagara Falls, Ontario. They were married in Toronto, Ontario, in 1962. The family relocated to Calgary, Alberta, in 1974 to pursue a better lifestyle and more opportunities for a bright future.
Dee is survived by her husband and love of her life Larry; son Shaun (Michelle) Johnson of Bragg Creek, Alberta; daughter Karen (Ken) Hughes of Vermillion, Alberta; son Derek (Anne) Johnson of Calgary, Alberta; and 6 grandchildren.
Dee was an excellent “hostess” cook and a number of her recipes have been taken up by family members. She was a second mother to most of her children’s friends during school years and many have kept in touch over the years. She loved the mountains and one of her great pleasures was family camping in Jasper over many years.
Dee was a very kind and giving person and her outgoing and friendly personality led her to frequently interacting with strangers. She positively impacted the lives of many people over the years with sincere kindness and love. Her most significant trait was her love for all children, and especially, her grandchildren. When out and about never a baby escaped her praise to the appreciation of the parents. She was truly unique and will be missed and remembered fondly by those that knew her.
