It is with heavy and saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Daniele Franceschin. The much loved and admired husband, Dad, brother, Zio and Nonno passed away in Calgary, Alberta on March 16, 2020 at the age of 91. He had numerous health struggles during his senior years and was once referred to as “a rare patient", having endured many health challenges.
He met Giuseppina, the love of his life, in Treviso, Italy. In 1954 he came to
Calgary to seek other opportunities and maintained a long-distance relationship with Giuseppina. She joined him in 1957 and they were married on April 6, 1957, when they started their life together. He was a carpenter who loved his trade, bringing with him his love of working with wood. He always strived to do the best job with a very keen eye, being very meticulous and precise in his craft. He worked at many construction sites in and around Calgary, and always found time to help friends with their own projects. Daniele also took pride in building furniture for his family and friends. He enjoyed helping Giuseppina with the summer garden and delighted in making his own wine for many years. He especially loved being Nonno and all of his grandchildren held a special place in his heart. Nonno had a great sense of humour and always a joke to share along with his wonderful laugh. Family gatherings will be fondly remembered.
Daniele is lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Giuseppina, children Antonella Whittier, Valerio (Irene) and Franco, grandchildren Stephanie (Avrey Sakundiak), Robert Franceschin, Jordan and Eric Whittier. He is also survived by his brother Giuliano (Benvenuta) and family, as well as numerous relatives in Italy. Daniele was predeceased by his brother Elio, sister Angela (Italo) and son-in-law Kevin.
Due to the unfortunate current world events, a private Mass was celebrated. This will be recognized on the feast of Saint Joseph, the patron saint of carpentry.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Sarcee Carewest and Bethany Care
Centre for their care of Daniele.
