Carol Doris Downey

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Downey on February 7, 2017 at the age of 79 years. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Charles; daughter Karen (Rodger) Woodhouse; sons Dan (Vicki) Downey, Jason (Wendy) Downey, Lee (Megan) Downey; grandchildren Luke, Mollie, Leanne, Kalan, Kara, Cale, Liam, Grace, Claire; great grandson Elijah Downey; sisters Marilyn (Don) Davis, Linda Cleveland; brother Murray (Kathy) Hocking, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Eugene Downey in 1983; parents Cathlyn and Wallace Hocking; and sister Betty-Ann Moss. Carol will be remembered as a loving, generous, kind person who was very nurturing to children and animals of all kinds, especially birds and dogs. She loved to travel and garden, and cherished her long friendships. Carol will be missed by her family and friends although we’re thankful for our time together. Relatives and friends are invited to a Prayer Service held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at CORPUS CHRISTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 404 Northmount Place N.W., Calgary, on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Agapé Hospice and staff from the Palliative Care Team. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to Agapé Hospice, 1302 8 Ave NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1B8.
