Barton was a devoted husband to Lydia, who predeceased him in 2020 with Covid, after 67 years of marriage. Together they raised 3 children, Brian (Katherine), Garth (Avril) and Heather (Dennis McLean), in Winnipeg, MB, before relocating to Calgary in 1970.
Barton was a very involved grandfather to his local grandchildren, Scott (Candice) and Jennifer (Chris Jacula), Brian’s children, as well as Shane and Jessica Beech, Heather’s children, and loved his visits to his out of town grandchildren, Ryan (Angela), Alyssa, Christopher (Hailey) and Jonathan, Garth’s children.
Barton also had 6 great-grandchildren: Grace and Samuel Crundwell (Scott), Caitlin and Sophia Jacula (Jennifer), and Braxton and Maeve (Christopher).
Barton was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB, by his late parents, Albert and Nellie, and was also predeceased by siblings Albert, Pat and Murray, and is survived by brother Terry.
Barton always made it a priority to spend time with his family, and especially enjoyed annual camping trips, skiing, and loved travelling to the mountains. He and Lydia also made numerous trips out of the country, particularly enjoying Hawaii.
Barton was known as a man of great faith and had a strong connection to the Lord, a heart for missions, and was an avid supporter of Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF).
His integrity, organizational skills and strong work ethic served him well in the insurance management field as well as in his personal life.
The family would like to especially thank the wonderfully compassionate staff at Cambridge Manor for making Dad’s last year so eventful and enriching.
A family memorial service will be planned for a later date.
