Barbara Jean Gamble

Barb was born in Vancouver and raised in Burnaby, she moved to Calgary in the early 70’s. She met her Husband Jim in Calgary and they were married in 1973. They lived in the community of Dalhousie for the entirety of their marriage. Barb always had a love for travel, animals and children and a deep commitment to her Baptist Faith. These passions formed her careers, as she attended UBC then UCLA earning her both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in library science. She became a Librarian with the Calgary Board of Education and worked at numerous schools in Calgary. Her passion for travel and her being Multi-Lingual led her to join Canadian Airlines as a customer service agent. This allowed her to instill this love for travel into both of her children.

Barb’s love for animals was known amongst all of her friends and colleagues, she was a part of “Pony Club” and helped teach many children and adults the love for these beautiful animals. Barb and her daughter Devon shared a special bond with respect to horses.

Barb’s faith guided her throughout her life, she strived to be a good person and to do what was right, she volunteered her time with Westview Baptist as a part of the community group, assisting in food drives and clothing giveaways, and in assisting at the newcomers lunch. She was a fixture at the church, and we take pride in knowing how much she was loved by those at Westview.

Barb is survived by her husband James “Jim”, Daughter Devon, Son Ryan (Koren, grandsons Brady and Oliver), Brothers William “Bill” (Deborah) and Douglas (Veronica) along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Eileen and Earl Walter.

The Family wants to extend its sincere gratitude to the Doctors and Nurses at the Foothills Hospital for the care they gave Barb in her final days.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Westview Baptist Church, 1313 Ranchlands Way NW, Calgary AB, on Saturday, April 22nd, at 1:00pm. Reception to follow the service.
