Betty was born to Chris and Ivy Ainsworth (nee Calvert) Friday, December 15, 1933 in Preston, England. She was the youngest of 4 children. Bill and Betty were married on Saturday, September 3, 1955 in Preston, England. Betty emigrated to Calgary, Alberta in 1957 where she lived the rest of her life.
Betty was an accomplished business women owning numerous residential and commercial properties around Western Canada. While raising their family in Calgary, Bill and Betty joined The Glencoe Club and were always seen curling, bowling, playing squash, badminton, golf and tennis. She was very sports minded but it was Tennis had always been her true passion. She held numerous Glencoe Club Championships in Ladies Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Provincially she was also a force to be reckoned with having amassed 22 Women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles categories. Only one other woman has won more Provincial Titles in Alberta than Betty.
Betty is survived by her husband of 69 years, Bill, her children; Mike (Judith), Ian (Karen), Robin (Nichola) and Jeff (Karen), grandchildren; Brandi (Wes), Hayley (Kyle), Helen, Liam, Kathryn, Kerrigan, and Keira and great-grandchildren; Amelia, Dylan, Kash and Mckinley.
Betty was predeceased by her father Chris Ainsworth, mother Ivy Calvert, sister Evelyn Townhill, sister Eileen Helm, and brother Ken Ainsworth
Betty’s Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at South Calgary Funeral Center and Crematorium, 12700 Macleod Trail South. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Local Charity of choice. The family extends special thanks to the staff at AgeCare Walden Heights (Sylvan Unit) for their support for Betty during her years there, and especially for comforting her in her final days.
