Audrey Morgan died peacefully on Friday, November 19th, 2010. She endured her cancer with her usual humour, determination, focus and love for others. She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas Ernest Leigh Morgan, in 1996. Audrey was born on May 27, 1922 and raised in Calgary. Upon completion of high school at the original Central High School, she attended secretarial school and began working at Robin Hood. When attending a dance with “our boys”, she met Douglas Morgan of the Royal Canadian Air Force. They married soon thereafter in 1941 and settled in Calgary after the war. She had three children; Randall, Laurie and Anne. It brought her great delight to be a stay-at-home mother, but when the children were all at a sufficient school age, she pursued her life-long dream of attending University. After two years in the Faculty of Education at the University of Calgary, she began teaching. She first taught in Calgary, then went on to teach throughout family moves to Steinbach, Manitoba and Drumheller, Alberta. She retired in 1982 when she and Douglas returned to Calgary. At the time of retirement, she had completed her Bachelor of Education degree, an accomplishment of which she was justifiably proud. Once in Calgary, she threw herself into a variety of activities, such as: Second Sixties, the Nifty Fifties, volunteering at Emily’s Window at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, Board of Directors for the West Hillhurst Go-Getters, volunteering at Bowcliff Seniors Centre, Inn From The Cold at Woodcliff United Church, involvement at Parkdale Seniors’ Centre and of course, playing her favourite game of bridge. The fine arts were an important part of her life and she enjoyed attending opera, ballet and theatre. Audrey was a true adventurer and travelled to many parts of the world taking great delight and pleasure from her many journeys. She spent a great deal of her time with family, and enjoyed a wonderful relationship with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She lived her life to the fullest having had a truly joyous, happy and adventuresome retirement. Mom is survived by her children and their spouses, Randall and Diana, Laurie and Bridey, Anne and Terry; her grandchildren Damon, Kyla, Evan, Eirlys and Kieran; her great grandchildren Jayden, Pascal and Callum. She is also survived by several relatives and many dear friends.
