Anne was raised in Edmonton in a large loving family. She graduated from the Royal Alexandra Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. In 1954 Anne married RCAF pilot Roger Stone in Edmonton and began their 61 year adventure together – raising 6 children and moving over 20 times with Anne leaving and starting a new job everywhere they went.
Upon retirement, Anne and Roger moved to Sylvan Lake and spent many happy years travelling and golfing with winters spent in the Coachella Valley, California. They moved back to Calgary in 2002.
Anne is survived by sons Donald (MaryJane), Michael, James (Carol), Brian (Sue Postma) and Bradley Stone, and daughter Anne Stone Johnson (Barry); as well as 18 grandchildren Lisa (Joe Long), Ben (Katie Dempster), Allison, Alexander, Daniel, Kyle (April Vande Beek), Ryan (Jenna), Colin (Ashlee), Nathan (Nikala Morrison), Amy (Sam Catellier), Chad (Melissa), Bradley (Lauren), Will (Christelle Taylor) and Clare Stone, Logan and Ryan Koudys-Stone, and Adam (Alexx), Olivia (Dave Keenan) and Julia (Brian Goertzen) Johnson: as well as 17 great-grandchildren. Anne is also survived by her brother Doug Smith (Claire); sisters Ruth Gramlich, Dorothy Stein (Milton), and Georgina Nordstrom (Richard); sisters-in-law Terry Smith, Sister Beryl SSJD, and brothers-in-law Fred and Mike (Del) Stone, nieces and nephews, their spouses and children. She was predeceased by her parents Adam and Helen Smith and older brother Ramsey Smith.
Anne was a talented seamstress and quilter and loved cooking and baking for her family and friends. She was blessed with a beautiful voice, and played the piano and sang in choirs all her life. A true optimist, Anne was happiest in her garden, with one glove off, coaxing forth a wonderful display of flowers every year, despite the temperamental Calgary weather. Anne has gone to join her beloved Roger - ready to continue their adventure together.
Special thank you to the staff and residents of The Manor Village at Huntington Hills where mom has enjoyed living since November 2021, and to the staff of Unit 32 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital for their wonderful care and kindness.
A Memorial Service will be held at Hillhurst United Church, 1227 Kensington Close N.W. Calgary, on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, take someone you love to lunch. Order the shrimp!
