1953 - 2011
Anna passed away peacefully with her husband Luigi by her side and with family and friends close at hand at the Foothills Hospital on Monday, November 7, 2011.
Anna was brought into this world by Ursula and Jan Konieczny at Montreal, Quebec. She completed her Secondary School in Montreal prior to moving to Niagara Falls, Ontario where she obtained her degree at Brock University in St. Catherines. After graduation she joined the Federal Service in the employ of Canada Customs (Canada Border Services Agency) as an Inspector in September 1981 working at the various land Ports of Entry in and around Niagara Falls. In June 1983, she took up a posting at the Port of Entry at Coutts, Alberta. In the fall of 1986 she accepted a position as an Immigration Officer at Coutts until she transferred to the Inland Immigration Centre at Calgary in May 1989.
In the spring of 1990, Anna became an Immigration Hearings Officer, a position she held until her retirement due to disability in February 2011. During the course of her career, Anna completed overseas assignments at the Canadian Embassy in Warsaw, Poland and the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi, India, as well as functioned as an escort officer on occasion. She received several long service awards, commendations and the Peace Officer Medal issued by Canada Border Services.
Anna loved to cook, hike, golf (she finally broke a hundred in July 2010), ski, travel, socialize with family and friends and of course shop and boy could she shop and influence those who went with her.
In addition to being a dedicated employee in the service of Canada, Anna was a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to those who knew her. She will be dearly missed by all.
While Anna travels alone on her next Journey to join her father Jan (John) Konieczny who predeceased her, she leaves behind Luigi her loving husband, mother Ursula (William Rodda) Konieczny, brother George (Stella) Konieczny (Stella) of Montreal, numerous brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews whom she loved and cared for very deeply, and numerous relatives and friends in Canada and abroad, and of course let us not forget her little fur balls, Kasia and Jethro.
Heartfelt thanks to the healthcare professionals on Unit 42 at the Foothills Hospital and the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, who cared for and provided treatment to Anna during her numerous trips to the facilities since February 2006.
