Allan was the son of John and Margaret Routhier, born June 10, 1947 in Alexandria, Ontario. He attended Glengarry District High School and then headed west at the age of 16. He spent time in Calgary and Vancouver and later made his home in Whitehorse and Mayo, Yukon.
Allan spent many years driving in the Yukon and his passion for that eventually led him to hauling heavy equipment for pipeline contractors throughout B.C., Alberta, Manitoba and Nova Scotia. He was well respected in the pipeline community. He also spent part of his career gold mining in the Mayo area of the Yukon. Before his retirement, he met his partner Helen in Calgary and then divided his time between Alberta and the Yukon.
Allan loved the outdoors-fishing and golfing, and he adored animals. He had a keen interest in the stock market, driving the Alaska Highway, and was an excellent conversationalist. Allan appreciated the study of family history and was keenly interested in the life of his uncle Allan John (“Hardrock”) McDonald, after whom he was named.
Allan is survived by his partner Helen, Calgary; his son Blaine (Shannon), Whitehorse; his sister Betty, Edmonton; his brother Donnie (Joanne), Alexandria; Laura (Matt) Logan and Zack, Brandi, and Josh (Stephanie), and two grandchildren, Sawyer and Braylen. Allan was predeceased by his parents, his brother Martin, and sister Mary.
A special thank you from the family is given to the staff of the Rockyview Hospital ICU for their compassionate care.
A family celebration of life will take place at a later date in the Yukon.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made in Al’s memory directly to the Canadian Cancer Society-Prostate Cancer Research, (https://cancer.ca/en/).
