Aletta Van Oord

Passed from our loving arms into His, Aletta VanOord, our dear mom, grandma, and great grandma was called home to her Lord and Saviour on Saturday, September 24th, 2022 at 11:00 pm, one month short of her 96th birthday.

She is survived by her daughters; Melody (Harry) Jobse and Carolyn (John) Leusink, grandchildren Rebecca Jobse, Aaron Jobse, Kevin (Lindsey)Leusink and Nicole (Craig) Parder and great grandchildren; Nathan, Emily, Cole Leusink. She is also survived by Dad’s sister and brother-in-law Tonia & Jake Teuling, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins from both Alberta and Holland.

Aletta was an only child who grew up during the war years in Holland, and met our dad, Bastiaan (Bas), shortly after the war. They were married in September 1948, immigrated to Canada in 1953 and settled in Alberta where they enjoyed 46 years of life together.

They enjoyed the vast expanse of nature and creation in their backyard and across the country. Mom was the happiest outside in the mountains or at the ocean. She travelled to Holland when she was 75 years old and was so pleased to see her home country from a different perspective than when she grew up there.

She had a talent for both photography and writing poetry and self-published many books of poetry complimented with photos that she generously shared with friends and anyone who needed encouragement. She had a deep and abiding faith in her Lord and Saviour and shared that through her books.

She was blessed with good health for most of her life until the last year when little things began to become bigger things which left her with pain. We take comfort in knowing that she is free of pain and that she has been reunited with her husband Bas (1994), daughter Corinne (1960) and other loved ones who have gone before her.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 19th, 2022 at Queens Park Cemetery, 3319 – 4th Sr. NW with a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 pm at Emmanuel Christian Reformed Church 3020 – 51 St. SW with Pastor Martin Mobach officiating.
