He will be lovingly remembered by his step-mother, Esther Van Dam; siblings Nancy (Rob) Kennicott and Todd (Lavonne) Halsey; nieces and nephews Leah Kennicott, Rachel (Alex) Smith, Jayne (Rickey) Browley, Steven (Katie) Kennicott, Blake Halsey, and Hannah (John) Nagelkerk; great-nieces and great-nephews Jack Ruben, Molly and Olivia Smith, Taryn, Rickey, and McKenna Browley, Arlee Kennicott, and Carter Nagelkerk; and exceptional friends Dave and Donna Westhouse and family.
In his early years, Steve was known for his love of riding dirt bikes with the Dorr boys. He also could be found working on his bikes, fishing, hunting, and milking cows. During his later years, he rode his bicycle twenty miles in rain and snow to pick up cans or to find a conversation and a free cup of coffee. He was well known as the "Dorr Dimer."
A memorial service and picnic are planned for Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the Dorr Park - North from 12 - 4 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Moline Christian Reformed Church. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcaresbyron.com.
