It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert Allen Aman on July 25, 2024, at the age of 71. Robert was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who touched the lives of many with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit.
Born on December 18, 1952, Robert grew up in Detroit, Michigan, and graduated from Denby High School. He earned his degrees from Wayne State University and dedicated his career to nurturing young minds as an elementary school art teacher at Duffield Elementary School in Detroit.
Robert was a devoted father to Diana and Bridget and a loving husband to Carol, whom he married in 1978. His sons-in-law Nicholas and Michael, along with his grandchildren Joshua, Derrick, Lydia, Ada, and Henry, brought immense joy to his life. Robert was the cherished son of William and Caroline Aman and brother to his deceased siblings Gloria, Thomas, Luther, and Timothy.
Robert had a passion for the outdoors and working with his hands. His hobbies included woodworking, gardening, stained glass, painting, and brewing beer. His family will also remember him fondly as the "grill master," as he notably manned the grill during gatherings. He was known for his incredible patience, calm demeanor, and optimism in all situations, making everyone around him feel welcome and valued.
Robert passed away in peace, surrounded by his loving family. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, students, friends, and for the love and creativity he brought into the world. Robert's legacy of love, strength, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
Visitation will be held from 2 - 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center, 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, Michigan. A celebration of Robert’s life will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 3431 Autumn Wood, Hamilton, MI 49419. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to fund research at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Robert's memory.
