Shirley Ann Everett McCoy was born in Burnet, Texas on June 18, 1937, and passed away on June 25, 2022, in New Braunfels, Texas. Shirley was a devoted wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill McCoy, her father Jim Everett, her mother Clodell Jennings Everett, and her brother Jim Everett. She is survived by her sister Janice Everett Harmatuk and by many extended family members she loved and cherished dearly. Shirley and Bill had three children (Melony, Terry, & Randy), seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren as follows:
Melony and husband Tim Constanzo have son Cullen and daughter Cassie. Cullen and wife Danielle have daughter Sadie and son Hank. Terry McCoy and wife Becky have daughters Hannah and Claire. Hannah is married to Christopher Piwowar, and Claire is committed to boyfriend Evan Smith. Randy McCoy and wife Monica have daughters Heather and Wendy and son Kenney. Heather and husband Austin Smith have daughter Cooper and son Brecken. Kenney and wife Adara have son Malaki and daughters Mya, Brynne, and Stassi. Wendy is with her fiancé Brandon Adaway.
Actually, to say that Shirley was a devoted wife and mother is somewhat of an understatement. Shirley met Bill when they were both freshmen at Burnet High School, and the two dated throughout their high school years. They were wed 3 days after graduation and were married 49 years at Bill’s passing in 2004. Shirley stayed home to raise their children and didn’t work outside their home until her primary job, raising kids, was completed.
Shirley was a devout Christian and a life-long member of Oaks West Church of Christ. Through the years there she hosted numerous Ladies Bible Classes, taught many Sunday School Classes, and sang countless gospel hymns. To her final day, singing and listening to hymns brought her so much joy.
Having raised her children, Shirley went to work for the Burnet County Extension Service (now known as AgriLife Extension Service), retiring after 13 years to spend more time with Bill and their grandchildren. After retirement she pursued many interests, most notably her artwork. She took lessons and created many beautiful pieces that her family treasures. She also volunteered to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and was named the Texas CASA of the year in 2000.
Shirley was known by her family and friends for her faith, compassion, quick wit, and her sweet, gentle loving nature. She deeply loved and was deeply loved by her family and friends. She will be sorely missed.
The family extends its love and appreciation to the wonderful staff of Elan Westpointe and to Embrace Hospice for the great care they provided to Shirley and to her in-home caregivers in Burnet. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to CASA or to any charitable organization devoted to the needs of children.
Private burial will take place at Bethel Cemetery. A public memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 1, 2022, at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 East Polk Street, Burnet, Texas. Please wear a touch of pink, Shirley’s favorite color, if you attend. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ClementsWilcoxBurnet.com for the McCoy family.
