Roger Dale Sanders of Burnet, TX., passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, January 4, 2024. He was born in Taylor, TX., on August 27, 1951, to Richard Haywood Sanders and Caroline Seigmund Sanders.
Roger moved to Burnet at a very young age and graduated from Burnet High School in 1969. During his high school days, at about 16 years old, Roger took a job at Hoover Building Supply where he eventually worked his way into contract sales before entering into construction.
In time, Roger became president of Hoover Building and later a partner in Hoover Construction.
He helped build this community in many ways. Most would be surprised at the number of buildings in our area and across the state that started as blueprints on Roger’s desk.
He was very good at what he did and took great pride in his work.
Roger wore many hats and worked on countless projects but the hat he was most proud to wear would have said, ‘Pop’.
Roger loved his family and friends deeply; there’s nothing he wouldn’t do for any of them.
To quote his youngest daughter, “The world was a safer place for us with him in it.”
Roger was preceded in death by his father, Haywood Sanders.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary Nell Sanders; mother, Caroline Sanders; brothers, Ray Sanders, Randy Sanders and his wife Teresa, and Richard Sanders; daughter, Angela Hadd and her husband Raymond; daughter, Debbie Craig and her husband Edgar; son, Leland Craig; daughter, Mary Craig Watson; and son, Wayne Craig and his wife Monica.
He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved little dog Honey.
Pallbearers include his grandsons Jathan, Wesley, Jeston, Casey, Roger, Brett, Billy, and Brandon.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Clements-Wilcox, with Pastor Rodney McGee officiating. Burial will be immediately following at Post Mountain Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 5 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet.
