Minnie Jorene (Turner) Phelps passed away peacefully at home in San Angelo, Texas on April 6, 2016. Minnie Jo was born June 22, 1930 at Cow Creek in Travis County, Texas to James Lafayette “Dee” Turner and Ada Annie (Collier) Turner. She is survived by her daughters, Marsha Katherine (Phelps) Howard of Forney, Texas and Cynthia Ann (Phelps) McInnish and her husband, Jeff, of San Angelo, Texas; 4 grandsons, Charles Wade Howard, Jr. and wife, Kelli, of Van Alstyne, Texas, Daniel Lane Phelps of Lake Dallas, Texas, Travis James Phelps of Tacoma, Washington, and Jeffrey Heath McInnish of San Angelo, Texas; 2 granddaughters, Mary Jean (Phelps) Herrera of Corinth, Texas, and Ashton JoAnn McInnish of San Angelo, Texas; 7 great-grandchildren, Madison, Dakota, and Cason Howard of Van Alstyne, Texas, Jacob, Matthew, and Brandon Phelps of Allen, Texas, and Gabrielle Herrera of Corinth, Texas; 1 brother, D.L. “Punk” Turner of Bertram, Texas; 1 sister, Alene Morris of Bertram, Texas. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who were all very special to her.
Minnie Jo was preceded in death by her son, Winfred Phelps; grandson, Matthew Howard; son-in-law, Chuck Howard; her parents, Dee and Ada Turner; brothers, Dick Turner, Son Turner, and Gordon Turner; sisters, Lucille McAnally, Merle Chambers, and Joyce Morris.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. Known as Jo, Momma Jo, and Granny Jo in the Lake Dallas area, she was a long-time resident of Lake Dallas, Texas before moving to San Angelo to live with her daughter, Cynthia, and her family. She greeted everyone with her kind smile. Her refrigerator was always open, but you had to be special to get some of her Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream or to get one of her hand-stirred vanilla milkshakes. She will be missed by so many people.
A Memorial Service in memory of Minnie Jorene (Turner) Phelps will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel in Burnet, Texas with Ronnie Brooks officiating. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, April 18, 2016, at the Swisher Cemetery in Lake Dallas, Texas with Dr. William E. LaBarr officiating.
