He lived on Lake Buchanan near Burnet since his retirement in 2006 from Alcoa Aluminum Co. where he spent a 30-year career as an electrician.
Mike was a member of the Catholic Faith and served as a Third Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus since 1985. He also gave 8 years of service to the US Army. His main occupation and love was farming which kept him busy the first half of his life.
Mike’s favorite pastime was fishing, which was introduced to him as an infant. Gardening was an important part of his life as were bar-be-cue cook-offs, but his main activity in life was drinking beer and making people laugh. He had a quick wit that everyone enjoyed.
Surviving family include his wife of 58 years Shirley Ann; 2 daughters Miki Melise Korenek and husband Darrell of Weatherford and Monette Michele Schweitzer and husband Matt of Rockdale survives Mike. Also 2 sons Marcus Michael Moerbe of Burnet and Matthew Montgomery Moerbe and wife Jordana of Cedar Creek. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren Tina Cloud, Abbie Korenek, Parker Korenek, Luke Schweitzer, Lane Schweitzer, Lily Schweitzer, Isabel Moerbe, Alex Moerbe, and Sabrina Moerbe. He also has one great grandchild Callie Mae Cloud.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-8 PM on Monday March 13 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet. The Rosary will be held at 7 PM during the time of visitation. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Tuesday March 14 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Burnet. Interment with Military Honors will be held following the service at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park near Burnet.
