Max grew up in Mexico City and started working at a very early age to support his mother and sisters. He worked hard but also loved the game of soccer. He was part of a professional soccer team, Cruz Azul, and enjoyed it very much. He met and married his beautiful wife Malena April 14th, 1973. They enjoyed forty one years together. They had two children, Max and Malena.
In 1984 they moved to San Antonio, TX. Max Sr. went on to work in the restaurant industry, owning and managing several places over the years. The list would be long to include them all but there was Maximiliano's, La Fogata, Soluna, El Mirasol, Besito's and Dulce Vida to name a few.
In 2010, after many years of hard work Max and Malena moved to Burnet to be close to their kids and grandkids and help his son with his restaurant The Maxican. Max Sr. enjoyed meeting and becoming friends with so many people from Burnet.
Max had many friends but spending time with his family was what he enjoyed the most. He loved soccer, especially Las Chivas, basketball, especially The Spurs and football, especially The Cowboys. His favorite pastime was golf. He loved to play the game. He was often seen on his day off at Delaware Springs playing a round and enjoying life. He enjoyed going with his kids, nephews, grandkids and anyone else that wanted to play!
With a joyful smile always on his face, Max made friends everywhere he went. He was a good hearted man who loved God, loved his family and would do anything he could to help someone.
Max is preceded in death by his parents, Maximiliano and Estela Cardenas. He is survived by his wife Maria Magdalena Cardenas, his son and daughter in law Max and Amber Cardenas and their daughters Maddy, Sofia and Alexandra; also his daughter and son in law, Malena and Jeremy Taylor, and their children Mariafer, Daniel, Jenna and Charli. He is also survived by his brother Fidel and his five sisters Sylvia, Guillermina, Ofelia, Arcelia and Lourdes as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Known to so many, some as Senor, some as Chief, some as Machis, some as Papa, some as Dodo or Belo, he is loved by more than we could possibly name. He will be in our thoughts and in our hearts until we see him again.
The funeral service for Max will be held at 11am Tuesday, May 26th at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Burnet. Condolences may be offered to www.clementswilcoxburnet.com.
