She was born in Joppa, Burnet County, Texas on April 16, 1936 to Elmer Bird and Rubye Hopkins Bird. She and her five siblings grew up in rural Burnet County in the midst of the Great Depression. Lila and her family moved around picking cotton and finding other work where they could. They endured through their strong faith in Jesus.
Lila was married to her high school sweetheart, Martin Lewis Hoover, Jr. for 12 years, and they had three daughters, Sherry, Marsha, and Brenda. Lila was a homemaker and also worked as a waitress at Shell’s Café for many years. Lila enjoyed cooking for her family, camping, playing volleyball, and gardening. She loved music and often sang at family gatherings and church.
On July 3, 1968, Lila married Wilford Wilson. They moved to Mason, Texas for four years where another daughter, Tammy, was born. They then returned to their hometown of Bertram.
Lila was preceded in death by her husband, Wilford, her parents, sister Lois Shell, brother Buddy Bird, son-in-law James Spyder Barrow, step-daughter Kaye Wilson, brothers-in-law Fred Shell, Bud Tate, Melvin Case, Gerald Boring, and sisters-in-law Leoma Bird, Donna Bird, and Carol Bird.
She is survived by her sisters Lola Case and Frances Boring, her brother Wade Bird; her daughters Sherry McAnally and husband, James of Granite Shoals; Marsha Barrow of Bertram; Brenda Zingg and husband, Russ of Georgetown; Tammy Miller of Bertram; her step-children Wayne Wilson of Austin; Jan Belz of Kingsland; and Mary Kinnibrugh and husband, Kenny of Bertram; her 14 grandchildren: Shawn Watts (Thais), Doug Watts (Lucy), Randy McAnally, Keith Barrow (Kim), Dustin Barrow (Vicky), Blake Barrow, Nathaniel Barrow (Marla), Russ Zingg, Jr. (Kalee), Chris Zingg (Rachel), Michael Zingg (Maria), Matthew Miller, Eddie Shell II (Lisa), Shanda Miller (Justin), Amber Dotson (Luke); 21 great-grandchildren: Hope, William, Emerson, Padric, Agatha, Colsen, Ayden, Braylen, Brynlyn, Crislyn, Russ III, Alexandria, Sophia, Evelyn, Ruby, Julia, Hunter, Kinzie, Hayden, Corbin, Liberty; one great-great-grandson, Li.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 18, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, Burnet.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 10:00 a.m. at the Clements-Wilcox Burnet Chapel. Interment following at Mahomet Cemetery, Burnet County, Texas.
