Judy McGaughy Dickmann was a fun-loving, bright light to all those she encountered. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Judy left this world September 7th, 2023 after a brave battle with cancer. She will be dearly missed.
Judy was born in Evansville, Indiana to John Henry McGaughy and Bernice Sylvester McGaughy. The family relocated to Bladensburg Maryland where Judy graduated high school and began a career working for a U.S. Congressman in Washington, D.C. While in Maryland, Judy welcomed her son, Stephen Stroud into the world. Her next stop included Houston, Texas where she worked the remaining years of her career in the oil and gas industry. Houston is where Judy also met and married her match Ed Dickmann; and spent 47 wonderful years together. Retirement led the couple to the countryside of Weimar, Texas until the mountains of Angel Fire, New Mexico called them home. Ed and Judy eventually settled in Burnet, Texas to be closer to family.
Judy was an avid reader, enjoying mostly mystery novels. She also enjoyed sewing and created beautiful quilts that will be enjoyed by family for years to come. Judy found a special hobby in stained-glass; making several striking displays for various family members and fund-raisers. While residing in Weimar and Angel Fire, Judy was known to plant beautiful flower beds including the bright colors that she adored. Another favorite pass-time of Judy’s included playing Mah-Jong with other women in Angel Fire and Central Texas. Her grandsons Matthew and John have wonderful memories of baking cookies together with their grandmother in Weimar, Texas.
Judy was predeceased by her parents John Henry McGaughy and Bernice Sylvester McGaughy, as well as her brother John Henry McGaughy, Jr. She is survived by her husband Ed, her son Stephen Stroud and wife Melissa, grandsons Matthew Stroud and John Stroud, great-grandson Greyson Stroud, sister Molly Kooney, and many nieces and nephews.
