John G. Reyes “J.J”
John Gonzalez Reyes, age 75, of Burnet, Tx was born August 19, 1946 in Progresso, Texas to the late Teodoro and Mary G. Reyes. John passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021 surrounded by family.
John began working for KHLB in 1974 in Burnet County and was a part time DJ at The Starlight Lounge, doing what he loved until 1989. John worked with the City of Burnet as a Lineman from 1978, retiring in 1999. He was well known and loved by many.
John was big on spending time with family and friends. He loved to have gatherings. Cooking for his family and singing together was his favorite, he never wanted it to end. Over the years he loved being outdoors, camping, traveling and taking his family to theme parks and caverns.
His favorite places to visit were the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle- National Shrine in San Juan, TX and Edinburg, Tx to visit family. He was a funny, always joking, very outgoing individual who loved to tell his life stories and share his memories. His passion lived in music, from promoting, performing, djing and karaoke. Although he also loved the usual collecting of cars.
John was a very smart and talented man who taught himself to be the jack of all trades. He completed school to the 6th grade and later put himself through a trade school to learn vehicle mechanics. He also built his own home in 1983 with some help of his beloved brothers.
John is survived by his siblings Concha Knight and Ted Reyes. His twelve children
John Reyes Jr, Teodoro and Laura “Leanne” Reyes, Norma and Manuel Hernadez, Johnny Joe and Jennifer Reyes, Amy and Leo Reyes, Steven and Janet Reyes and their mother Hermilinda B Reyes also, Jeryme and Krispen Reyes, William and Melissa Reyes, Ashley and Mario Chavez, Shaina and Angel Escalante, Cheray and Thomas Cline and Chasity and Skyler LaForge and their mother Sharon O'Neil as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his brothers Guadalupe Reyes and Francisco Reyes, his sister Mary Escamilla, his grandchild Alex Reyes and many other beloved family members.
