10/29/1930 – 07/16/2024
John Allen Brown, 93, died peacefully in his bed at home on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
He was born October 29, 1930, to Troy and Myrtle Brown in Seminole, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marjory.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Shirley Standage of Kingsland, TX, Mollie McCoy of Kingsland, TX, and Anita Levens of Burnet, TX; his grandchildren, Cynthia Garcia, Jeremy (Tracey) Levens, Chris (Lexi) Levens, Thomas (Berrilyn) Levens; and his great-grandchildren, David Levens, Nora Levens, Robert Levens, Lucas Levens, Doss Levens, Grayson Levens, Paxton Levens.
John enjoyed working with his hands, taking photographs, learning new technology, and reading.
He and Marjory had a passion for traveling. They reached their goal of visiting all 50 states. As a part of their travels, they drove to Alaska four times.
John had a long career with Reynolds Metals Company. In 1952, he began at the plant in Ingleside, TX, as a laborer in the pot room. He later moved to the position of foreman in the power room, and completed his time there as an engineer who oversaw OSHA requirements. When this plant closed, John and Marjory decided to take the opportunity to live outside of the United States in a move to Venezuela. For four years John worked on developing the Reynolds plant there while he and Marjory enjoyed the adventure of experiencing life in a new culture. A particular highlight of their time in Venezuela was on their return home aboard a Reynolds cargo ship. The voyage first took them down and back up the Amazon River to pick up a load of bauxite and then through the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico to the company port in Ingleside, TX. This trip marked John’s retirement from Reynolds in 1981.
While in Venezuela, John and Marjory joined a non-denominational church whose pastor happened to be Presbyterian. When they retired in Alva, Oklahoma, they joined the First Presbyterian Church. They continued their affiliation with the Presbyterian Church when they moved to Kingsland. Among other ministries, John worked with the building and grounds ministry at both the Alva and Burnet churches.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at 10:30 a.m. on August 2, 2024, at Burnet Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Burnet Presbyterian Church or First Presbyterian Church of Alva, OK.
