After high school she attended business school and became a legal secretary and former employee of the FBI.
Gene married Rayford A. “Ray” Cagle August 24, 1958, in Silver Spring, Maryland.
She has been a resident of Burnet since December 7, 1967.
Gene was a devoted wife, mother, member and volunteer of countless committees of Burnet First United Methodist Church, volunteer at the library thrift store, active in Burnet 4H, fan of the Texas Aggies and the Dallas Cowboys. She loved gardening and raising plants and flowers in her greenhouse. Gene also had lemon and pecan trees.
She is survived by her husband Rayford A. “Ray” Cagle, son Roger Cagle and wife Mechele of Sulphur Springs, daughter Karen Lopez and husband Julio of Burnet, brother-in-law Harold “Shorty” McElhinney of Lathrop, MO. Gene is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ireabell Bowers, Nadine McElhinney, and Dortha Rea; and brother-in-laws Dave Bowers and Farrel Furr.
Visitation will be held December 27, 2016, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet.
Funeral services will be held December 28, 2016 at 10:00 am at Burnet First United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Post Mountain.
