Gabriel (Gabe) Pina, Sr. was blessed with 87 years of life before God received him into his heavenly home on April 3, 2023. His wife, Susie Castro Pina, who had lovingly ministered to him throughout an extended illness was by his side.
Gabe Pina was born to Santos Pina, Sr. and Epifania Rios Pina on March 24,1936. He wed Susie Castro on December 31, 1955 and they raised a family of five children in the Leander/Liberty Hill area, the last 40 years in Liberty Hill where he farmed and ranched after retiring from Texas Quarries in Cedar Park.
A loving and devoted family man, he most enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife of 68 years, his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed the outdoors; hunting and fishing and playing and watching baseball up until the end.
Gabe was preceded in death by two sons, Tony Pina and Joe Pina; by brothers Jose Pina, Esequio Pina, Santos Pina, and his sisters Salome Garza, Reyes Rodriguez and Angela Villarreal.
Surviving him are his wife, Susie; son Gabriel Pina,Jr. and wife Cherie; daughter Suzanne Pina; son Albert G. Pina and wife Sally; brother, Eddie Pina and wife Nancy; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends by whom he was loved and respected and by whom he will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held at Clements Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet, Texas, from 5:00 until 7:00 Wednesday evening, April 5th, with Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bertram, Texas, at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 6th, followed by interment in the Liberty Hill Cemetery.
The family appreciates the prayers and calls of Gabe’s many loved ones and especially extends heartfelt thanks to Mary Ojeda, whose love and support enabled us to keep him home with us as long as possible.
