Elizabeth Ann (Montgomery) McElroy, age 76 of Burnet, Texas passed away Sunday, August 22, 2010. She was born April 6, 1934 in Port Arthur, Texas to Alvin O. Montgomery and Bessie Carmen (Baker) Montgomery, both longtime Burnet County residents. Ann married Edward M. “Mac” McElroy on July 19, 1952 in Galveston. In 1985 they moved from Bellaire to Burnet.
Ann was an accomplished artist and local painter who was twice president of Buchanan Arts and Crafts. After having three children she took on the chore of being a business owner. She and her sister “Sis” opened a craft and millinery shop in Houston. The business was extremely successful with the help of her mother and mother-in-law. They sold the business many years later and she continued with the arts and crafts at home with the help of her children and friends. Ann was a people person. She made their house a home for her family and her children’s many friends. Everyone loved to gather at the home and always had a good time.
Ann is survived by her husband of 58 years, Edward M. “Mac” McElroy, son Jack A. McElroy and wife Lynda of Beaumont, daughters Tamera A. McElroy of Bertram and Lori B. Garabieta and husband Inaki of Houston; grandchildren Jason E. Moore of Austin, Kathryn “Katie” Moore of Houston, Kimothy “Kim” Dixon and husband Chris of Austin, Bret Meinscher of Beaumont and Monike Garabieta of Waco. Great grandchildren are James E. Moore of Burnet, Kayla Meinscher, Courtney Meinscher of Lumberton and Aaron Dixon of Austin. Ann is also survived by her sisters Alvia Lea “Sis” Theilig of Ft. Worth and Barbara “Totsy” Booker of Beaumont and sisters-in-law Lee Nauert Montgomery. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many many friends. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, brother Eldwin (Bud) Montgomery, and two brothers-in-law, Harold P. Theilig and James “Jim” Booker.
Visitation was held at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home Tuesday, August 24, 2010 and funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home with her niece Dr. Reverend Eilene Theilig officiating. Interment followed at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park. Pallbearers named were Inaki X. Garabieta, Donald Bret Minster, Paul Theilig, Josh Everett, Allen E. Fruge’, and Don Everett.
The family has asked that memorial contributions in memory of Ann should be made to the Respite Center c/o the First United Methodist Church of Burnet 909 N. Vanderveer Burnet, Texas 78611.
