Earl Edward (Eddie) Fariss, 62, beloved husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, and friend was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 1st, 2012, at 5:07 A.M. Eddie was born in Burnet, Texas on January 1, 1950, to Aubrey Alton Fariss and Doris Ann (O'Donnell) Fariss.
Eddie graduated from Burnet High School in 1968 and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. He came to the Texas Department of Community Affairs, later named the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, from Williamson-Burnet County Opportunities, Inc., a community action agency where he served as a program consultant in the administion of the Job Training Partnership Act. As Director of the Community Affairs Division, he was directly involved with issues dealing with poverty, homelessness, and child and dependent care. He represented the Department on several councils, such as the Texas Homeless Network, and Texas Interagency Council for the Homeless, where he served as vice chair. He was a tireless advocate for those less fortunate, and spent his entire career working toward ending homelessness.
Eddie loved music and played drums and sang for many years for numerous rock, country and western, and swing bands. He loved to cook and garden and was fabulous at both.
Eddie was preceded in death by his son Aubrey Clayton Fariss and father Aubrey Alton Fariss. He is survived by his wife Julie Greenlees Fariss, and son Michael Edward Fariss, mother Doris Ann Fariss, brother and sister-in-law Craig and Mary Ellen Fariss and brother Tracey Fariss, all of the Burnet area.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 4 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 5 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Burnet. Interment will follow at the Post Mountain Cemetery in Burnet. Those named as pallbearers were Bill Howell, Jeff Foreman, Matt Counts, Rolando Rodriguez, Sam Greenlees, and Ted Huffman.
In lieu of flowers memorials and contributions may be made in the name of Eddie of Aubrey Fariss's name to the Aubrey Fariss Scholarship Fund, c/o Wells Fargo Bank, Round Rock, Texas.
