Dorothy Elizabeth Metze, age 101, began her new life in eternity on Saturday, June 15, 2024. Dorothy was born in Mercedes, Texas on May 3, 1923 to Herman and Louise Roeper. She grew up with two sisters, Margaret and Adeline, who preceded her to heaven. In 1942 Dorothy married her sweetheart, Leroy Metze, and they had two children, Leroy and Dorothy (Dottie). Leroy was waiting for her in heaven Saturday.
Dorothy walked with the Lord. She was active in her church, teaching Sunday school and vacation Bible school for many years. She was a good seamstress and a great cook. She loved being a full-time mom, square dancing with Leroy, camping with her family, and later, spending time with her grandchildren. After Leroy’s retirement they volunteered together at St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital in San Antonio for several years.
In 2006 Dorothy and Leroy moved to Burnet Texas to be close to their daughter, Dottie Johnson, son-in-law Ron and their family. There they became members of First Baptist Church.
Dorothy was greatly loved by her daughter Dottie (and Ron) Johnson, her son Leroy (and Barbara) Metze, as well as her grandchildren Terry (and Carmen) Johnson, Tamara (and Roy) Thompson, Tate Johnson, Justin Metze, and Jeffrey (and Dominique) Metze; great grandchildren Jessica (and Brandon) Canady, Clayton (and Katie) Johnson, Joshua (and Emily) Thompson, Chelsea Byers, Ainsley Metze, Dezmon, Madison and Brinley Metze. Dorothy was also blessed to have great-great grandchildren Harper and Finley Canady, Remington and Everett Thompson, Noah Johnson and Ryker Byers.
Though she will be missed by her family and friends, we have joy in knowing that one day we will join her in heaven. We’ll see you soon, Dorothy/Mom/Grandma/GG!
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate in Dorothy’s memory to Chapel of the Hills Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
A memorial service for Dorothy was held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 22 at Chapel of the Hills Baptist Church. A private burial at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park preceded the memorial service.
