Billie LaJuan Daniel Collins, (91), passed away the morning of Friday, October 18, 2024. She had been hospitalized for several weeks with pneumonia and congestive heart failure. She was surrounded by family and loved ones during that time and passed peacefully.
Funeral service to be held 3 pm Saturday, October 26 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. Visitation 1 hour before service. Interment to follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Billie was born on July 18, 1933, in Bertram, TX to Claud and Eula Daniel. She was a lifelong resident of Bertram until recent months when she and her husband, Don, moved to assisted living in Kyle, TX. She graduated as Salutatorian of the class of 1950 from Bertram High School and was the first woman in her family to attend college. She attended secretarial school at Southwest Texas State College. She married Donald Gene Collins on December 22, 1951, in Bertram. They had two children, Richard Daniel Collins and Donna Collins McCulloch.
Billie was first and foremost a Christian, a daughter of Christ. She was generous and outgoing in her desire to help others. She was a loyal and devoted wife of 72 years. She was a kind and loving mother. She had a dry wit that would often take you by surprise. Billie was an excellent cook and seamstress. In her professional career, she was executive secretary to the Chief of the License and Driver Registration department at the Texas Department of Public Safety. After she and Don retired, they travelled across the country in their RV, enjoying seeing this country and making their way across Canada to Alaska to see Rick and his family there.
Billie is survived by her husband, Don, her son, Rick Collins and daughter-in-law Antoinette of Wasilla, AK, grandchildren, Shaphan and his wife Autumn, Jacob and his wife Kristina, Sawyer and his wife Sheila, Jeremiah and his wife Brandolynn, and Josie and her husband Michael, and sixteen great-grandchildren: her daughter Donna McCulloch of Kyle, TX, grandchildren Alvin Jr. and his wife Jackie, Allan and his wife Jennifer, and Lavada; six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild: and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Julia (Judy) and husband Duryl Bird, and son-in-law Alvin McCulloch Sr.
