Mrs. Yin Mei Chan

December 22, 1925 to December 30, 2015

After celebrating her 90th birthday and Christmas surrounded by friends and family, Yin Mei Chan passed away peacefully on the morning of December 30. Born in 1925 in Guangdong, China, Mei led an adventurous life that spanned four continents, living in Hong Kong, Ireland and Guyana before settling in Vancouver, Canada in 1972 with her family. Mei loved to sing, to cook and to garden and was most often found in her kitchen or in her backyard when not participating in community events at the Carnegie Centre or shopping in Vancouver’s Chinatown. A beloved mother and grandmother, Mei is survived by her daughters, Yu Ping (Kai Hong), Jinping, (Boguang), Kathleen, and Elaine (Gary), stepchildren including Barbara (Barry), Yvonne (Doug), Jimmy (Tessie) and Joan (Pan) and grandchildren. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Columbus Residence for the love and care she received over the past several years. The funeral service will be held at Forest Lawn Chapel at 3879 Royal Oak Ave, Burnaby, on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 9:30am. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC.
