With great sadness we announce Bill Grant passed away Sunday, November 27 at his home in Vancouver.
Bill is lovingly missed by his wife Sue; son Douglas (Kristen); son Brian (Katie); daughter Cheryl; and two grandchildren, Ella and William. Bill is also survived by his brother Robert; nieces, nephew, their families and his cousins.
Bill was born in New Westminster on July 13, 1942 to William Albert Grant and Dorothy Patricia (Nielson); graduating Como Lake High School (1960) and the University of British Columbia, B.Ed (1967). At UBC, Bill established himself as a dynamic individual with an affinity for sport, politics and leadership; he was a member of the Big Block Varsity Rugby, played on the football team and built lifelong friendships through Delta Kappa Epsilon. He also began at UBC his most important relationship when he met his beloved wife Sue, whom he married June 19, 1970.
Bill was a respected entrepreneur, advisor and mentor. He ascended the corporate ranks from a District Field Assistant at Procter and Gamble to President, Nabob Foods by age 34. He had a unique ability to conceptualize and build opportunities which lead to numerous business successes in Canada and the US. He believed in the value of teams and developing communities. He served on many boards and ran in both federal and civic elections. Bill was especially proud of the resorts he built, jobs that were created and the enjoyment of the properties by visitors each year to Birch Bay (WA), his second home.
Bill had a love for life. He enjoyed his pastimes including memberships and great friendships at the Terminal City Club and Vancouver Golf Club. Most of all, Bill loved his family; envisioning the future while enjoying the present. He will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 7 at Forest Lawn Chapel, Burnaby (viewing at 1:30 PM). A celebration of life reception will follow at the Vancouver Golf Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Arrangements under the direction of Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Burnaby, BC.
