Verna May Halliday formerly Deugau (nee Nelson)
Loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Passed away peacefully at New Vista Care Home in Burnaby, BC. She was the first child of Elizabeth and Martin Nelson. Verna was born in North Dakota but grew up in Alberta. She with her growing family eventually moved to BC where she remained until her passing.
Verna was a working mom, a longtime employee of Canada Post until her retirement. She was an avid reader, saying books were her friends and so always had them close by. Verna always remembered a birthday or anniversary with a card. If you ever were unsure of a date you just needed to ask her and she would reply without needing to look it up. She loved everything country and most enjoyed the music. Losing her hearing and sight were such a great disappointment to her. Yet she persevered.
Thinking of her favourite saying “ I’m doing the best I can “ will bring us to smile. Survived by her children Curtiss (Connie) Deugau, Del Deugau, Candy Reid, Darrell (MaryLou) Deugau, grandsons David and Joe Mulligan, Wes (Carla) Deugau, Josh (Collette) Deugau, Conrad (Heather) Deugau, Sunny Deugau and many great-grandchildren.
Also survived by sister Cory Boyle, sister-in-law Sylvie Nelson, daughter-at-heart Lorraine Wilson and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by siblings Curtis Nelson, Glenn Nelson, Betty (Orville) Watt and Lloyd (Frieda) Nelson.
Mom will be greatly missed and always in our hearts. Heartfelt thanks to the 7th floor Staff at New Vista Care Center for their dedication and service in providing care to our mom.
In memory of mom, donations to the New Vista Society would be greatly appreciated. No service by request.
